Boy Scout Leadership Training is the first level of training for adult leaders in the Boy Scout organization. This course is in 2 parts with a prerequisite. The prerequisite is needed if you have not been through New Leaders Essentials and Youth Protection. If you have done this you must make sure your Youth Protection card is valid (good for 2 years) otherwise you can renew it online. Both parts are required and a current Youth Protection Card is required for Leader Certification. You must attend all day in each session to be registered at council as a “trained leader”.

Who Should Attend: Adults seeking to participate in any way with a Boy Scout troop.

At least one member of a pack is required by National to be trained in Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation for a whole pack to go camping together with a valid tour permit. The trained BALOO leader must be in attendance of the event.

This training is targeted to allow the Cub packs to be approved to go on overnight camping outings. You will be provided great ideas, camping info, training handouts, and the knowledge to plan a weekend overnight car camping trip for your pack.

Climbing Instructor Class

Here’s the promised Climbing Instructor Class information for the Verdugo Hills and West Los Angeles Councils. This is open to all registered scout adults in the Verdugo Hills and WLA area councils. I need 5-12 students to teach this class.

The cost is $60 which includes: books, materials, and belay training. It does NOT include 1 day Rock Training or 2 days Student led trip to Josh.

Classroom sessions 1 will be on Wed 1/21, class 2-5 will be on Thurs night 7pm -10pm (maybe till 10:30), on: 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, (3/5 is a backup date). The location is the LAAC Scout HQ off the 101 at Alvarado.

Session 6 Belay Class will be at the LA Rocks (indoor gym) in Hawthorne or REI Manhattan Beach on 2/26. (cost is included in my charge)

Session 7 Rock Training at Stoney Point will be 3/7 OR 3/8, its up to the students.

Session 8 Student led trip to Joshua Tree Indian Cove with their Troop, 3/14-15 or 4/11-12 or 4/25-26, it’s up to the students to plan and execute.

Cub Scouting National Camp School

Attention All Interested Cub Scout Adults!

If you have an interest in serving on a Cub Day Camp Staff and would like to receive training, the 2009 Cub Day Camp School Schedule is out. This year we are fortunate to have one of the Camp Schools at Camp Josepho, February 27- March 1, 2009. Camp School Certifications are good for 5 years!

All completed registrations must be turned into Christine Demmitt no later than January 9, 2009. All registrations must be approved by the Council.

BB Certification Course on Sunday, November 9

We will be offering a BB Certification Course on Sunday, November 9 at Camp Josepho from 9am – 1 pm. If you have interested people, have them email me to reserve a space. The cost is $6 per person.
