July Roundtable

June 18, 2009 by Webmaster · Comments Off

June Roundtable was well attended in spite of the graduation celebrations going on around the valley – CONGRATULATIONS to the graduates and their parents! The Cub leaders reviewed the June theme of camping and then reviewed all the possibilities for fun with the July theme about “Sportsmanship.” Scoutmasters and troop leaders discussed how to develop a program theme around emergency preparedness. There were two breakout sessions for LDS leaders in their unique application of the 11 year old new scout patrol and the Varsity/Venture program.
If you missed the meeting, you missed a lot of great announcements as well.
How ya gonna know what’s goin’ down?!!
July Roundtable for the Bill Hart District will be on Thursday, July 2, 7:30 PM, at the LDS building on the corner of Bouquet Canyon and Centurion Way.
Come early to sign in and have a chance to chat with fellow scouters before it starts. That way you won’t miss anything at the beginning. Leaders for Cubs, Boy Scouts, Varsity, and Venturing will meet in the gym promptly at 7:30 for the opening and announcements that apply to all scouting age groups. If you have an item you would like to announce or have announced, please call Chuck Byers at 661-645-1013.
At 7:45 the breakout sessions will begin with the following featured themes:
• Cubbing will have separate sessions for both den leaders and pack administrators. For den leaders, the session will focus on the program themes for the months of July and August, which are “Be A Sport” for July and “Fun in the Sun” for August.
• The Scoutmasters session will focus on the July theme of Drug-free Health and Fitness in Scouting and Society. It is essential to emphasize this topic in our troops often and completely for the safety and success of our youth and society.
• The Varsity/venture leaders breakout is primarily attended by the LDS leaders of programs for boys 14 and older, but all leaders of this age group are welcome and encouraged to bring their experience into the session. The breakout sessions will end anywhere from 8:30 to 8:45 followed by an informal crackerbarrel get-together. Please come for the information and network with fellow scouters. The goal of your Roundtable staff is to help you become a more effective leader.
